Frequently Asked Questions

Does your swimwear provide sun protection?

All our swimwear is made from 82% Polyester and 18% Lycra Spandex - both fabrics naturally have a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating, which measures their ability to block out UV radiation. Polyester has a UPF rating of 30-50, while spandex has a rating of 40-50. This means that they can block out up to 98% of harmful UV rays, providing excellent protection against sunburn and skin damage. However, it is important to note that we have not put our fabrics through a UV certification yet, but we will be doing this in the future.

What does the inner bra of the Swim Shirt look like?

The inner bra fits more like a sports bra (with elastic rather than a wire). The elastic is strong (we've upgraded since releasing our original line) and will provide support for larger-chested women.

Does your swimwear have bra cups?

Yes, all our swim-tops have removable bra cups built into them.

I've had a mastectomy, will your swimwear work for me?

Absolutely, our co-founder Velvet has had a double mastectomy, so ensuring our swim tops are comfortable for women who've gone through breast cancer was very important to us. All our swim tops have removable cups in them, so women can choose to remove them or add silicone bra inserts as they wish.

Will the colour fade in chlorine?

Absolutely not! Our swimwear holds extremely well against hundreds of washes and swims in chlorinated water.

Why we chose our fabric

Our swimwear is made from 82% Polyester and 18% Lycra Spandex.

Polyester and spandex are excellent options for sun-protective swimwear due to their durability and stretchability. Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is known for its strength and ability to retain its shape. It is resistant to shrinking, fading, and wrinkling, making it a perfect choice for swimwear that will be exposed to the sun and water.
Spandex, on the other hand, is a synthetic fibre that is known for its elasticity. It is highly stretchable, allowing the swimwear to move with the body and provide a comfortable fit. The added stretchability also means that the swimwear will retain its shape even after being stretched repeatedly in the water.

One of the key benefits of polyester and spandex is their ability to block out harmful UV rays. Both fabrics naturally have a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating, which measures their ability to block out UV radiation. Polyester has a UPF rating of 30-50, while spandex has a rating of 40-50. This means that they can block out up to 98% of harmful UV rays, providing excellent protection against sunburn and skin damage.

In addition to their sun-protective properties, polyester and spandex are also quick-drying fabrics. This means that they will not become heavy and soggy when wet, allowing the swimwear to dry quickly and remain lightweight. This is particularly important for swimwear that will be worn in the sun, as wet fabric can become uncomfortable and even cause irritation.
Overall, polyester and spandex are great options for sun-protective swimwear due to their durability, stretchability, UV protection, and quick-drying properties. These fabrics provide excellent comfort and protection against the sun, making them perfect for a day at the beach or pool.
